Haywood Waterways Association, Inc.: Haywood Waterways Association, Inc's mission is to maintain and improve surface water quality in the Pigeon River Watershed of Haywood County, North Carolina. They accomplish this through two objectives directed at reducing nonpoint source pollution: 1. Educating and focusing attention on the watershed as a natural, economic and recreational resource to be conserved and enhanced for this and future generations; and 2. Working with public agencies, conservation interests, businesses, community groups, and public and private land owners to implement water quality improvement strategies.

Haskell Indian Nations University: Haskell Indian Nations University (HINU) is the premiere tribal university in the United States, offering quality education to Native American students. Haskell’s faculty and staff is also predominantly native. Through the Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program (WHIP), Haskell has been able to create a pit pond that was modified to control the water level. Controlling the water level will help Haskell benefit the wildlife that pass through and/or live on campus. Besides creating another water source, Haskell planted some of the pasturelands back to tallgrass prairie.

This project is one of 15 regional Fire Science Exchanges funded by the Joint Fire Science Program.

Grant Soil and Water Conservation District: The Conservation Partnership provides the framework that can access financial support. Many of these practices are beyond the reach of individual producers. Food in the United States is abundant and relatively inexpensive. The Conservation Partnership can claim a small amount of credit for that fact. Grant SWCD teams with the Grant County Extension Service to provide applied agricultural research programs that enrich youth activities and promote occupations that can remain in rural areas.
