The Santa Catalina Volunteer Patrol is an organization that works in association with the U.S. Forest Service in the Santa Catalina Ranger District within the Coronado National Forest. Our primary focus is the Sabino Canyon Recreation Area, the Santa Catalina Trails (Pusch Ridge) and nearby Mt. Lemmon, all of which receive over 1 million visitors each year from around the world.

Shasta Indian Nation

The wilderness of northwestern California and southwestern Oregon, has been, and still is, the traditional homeland of the Shasta Indian people. Most traditional Shasta villages were located along the Klamath, Shasta, Salmon, and Scott Rivers, and their tributaries. The major structures of a Shasta village included the dwelling house (umma), a "big house" (okwa-umma), the sweat house (wukwu),and the menstrual hut (wapsahuumma). Each village was integrated into a larger band, each led by a headman.

Slow and Steady: Bog Turtles at Home on Private Lands

As a result of the Delaware Watershed Conservation Fund, agricultural landowners in New Jersey are changing management practices on their land to support the bog turtle, a species listed as threatened in the northern part of its range under the federal Endangered Species Act.
The beauty is, farmers aren’t just changing their practices because it’s good for the turtle; they are changing their practices because it’s good for business.
